What inspired you to co-found Ochre, and what was your vision for the company in its early days?

We wanted to create something of our own and move away from working for other companies. We also identified a gap in the market for a company that could provide an end-to-end approach to branding and experience design, seamlessly integrating strategy, identity and spatial experiences. Our vision from the start was to build a company that not only delivered exceptional design but also shaped how people interact with spaces in a meaningful way.

What skills do you think are most important for someone in your role to have?

Leadership is key, as well as the ability to set a clear vision and guide a team effectively. Attention to detail is crucial, along with the ability to manage under pressure and stay composed, especially when juggling multiple complex projects. The role requires strategic thinking, strong communication skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.

What are some key qualities you look for when hiring new team members for projects?

We look for people with a keen eye for detail, the ability to perform under pressure and a dynamic mindset. Adaptability is important because our projects are often fast-paced and require reactive problem solving. Collaboration is another key factor, as we like to hire people who can work seamlessly within a team while bringing fresh ideas to the table.

Can you share a project where you had to think outside the box to solve a unique challenge?

Delivering three large exhibition stands at Dubai Cityscape. Each stand was over 1,000 square metres, making it a massive logistical and creative challenge. Balancing the individual needs of each client while ensuring a high level of execution across all three was no small feat. We had to be innovative in our approach to design, project management and on-site coordination to deliver all three stands successfully. In the end, each client was extremely happy, and it was a proud moment for the team.

If you had to choose one project as your favourite, which one would it be?

I’d say the PwC Experience Centre Dubai was one of my favourites. It was a design-only project, and I had direct collaboration with the client throughout the process. They placed complete trust in Ochre to deliver our vision, which allowed for a seamless creative process. From the very beginning, we were aligned on the strategy and design, by the end, we had created a space that not only met but exceeded expectations. That level of trust and creative freedom made it a particularly rewarding experience.
